Give your answer to this question below!

1. dont kno
2. dont kno…depends where u go, my grey eats bout 750g of meat a night, but she would eat more
3. mat, soft toy for it to destroy, otherwise normal things u need for a dog
4. go for a female if u want a smaller dog, probably go for a male if u want a more playful dog
5. coats u can buy from pet shops or ask ur vet (mines got this massive thermal thing) collars u can get from the adoption agency
6. depends, ours came with the collar so it doesnt hav to wear a muzzle, a thin coat (wasnt much and we ended up buying our own), all vaccinations nd som worming stuff, we also got a lesson with a dog person.
7. just the way they are, they are generally sprinters so after a long walk or short run theyre buggered, they really are very nice dogs
8. dont kno, good breeding?
9. ours is kinda accident prone she cut her legs on som tin or something when she was running at the beach, but otherwise shes only cracked a bone in here leg when she was running around the backyard one time…
lovely pets
Greyhounds are bred as runners, an equivalent to any athlete. Therefor they tend to be healthier and it’s obviously why they run faster. They don’t need any extras or accessories, they just need love and discipline. Oh and a lead, they will need plenty of exercise if they are to remain healthy and fit. I don’t know why they are so chilled out and loveable but they are. They make great pets and it has to be better than having them put down just because they’re not fast enough any more. I have a rescue dog, he was a stray for his first eight years, in and out of re-homing centres but always getting out and never wanted back again. he’s been with us for five years now and you can tell he appreciates our company, he’s grateful. Much more so than my other dogs, it really shows. Don’t worry about all that stuff on your list. A warm home and a warm heart and your dog will be happy and healthy.
1) Do a search under retired greyhound trust they have a data base of dogs needing homes and local centres
I would say 36MPH is top speed rest of answer as above
2) How much do you want to spend? on a dry food diet plus extras about £10 per week pet plan is always a good idea
3) A walking out coat because they feel the cold and a greyhound collar and lead £30 tops
4) Really no difference
5)Ebay
6) Usually a lead and a plastic muzzle
7) 2.5 thousand years of selective breeding
9) No real heath problems but cancer both bone and spindle cell are common
Hope this helps
They live for about 12 to 15 years so are quite a commitment. They don’t need a great deal of exercises 20 minutes morning and evening is enough. They have fewer fat cells than a normal dogs so it is difficult to overfeed them so you can spoil them as much as you like. Keep an eye on their teeth and don’t forget their coat in cold weather and you will have a faith-full loving and undemanding companion and confidant
This link will give you a list of retired greyhound centres

1) Batersea Dogs & Cats Home
Again it has been bred into them over genrations as with many types of breed.
2) That depends on what you feed the dog (my partner has a Lucher X from Batersea and buys a large bag of dry dog food about once a month this cost about £10 so my partner tells me)
3) All you need is a bowl for food and a bowl for water, a bed for you dog to sleep in and of course a dog lead
4) Eather as both should be healthy any way, but you my find a female is of better temprement
5) They sell collers and leads at the shop in Batersea Dogs & Cat Home.
6) They will may povide you with a small bag of dog food to start you off. But this depends on the shelter.
7) It is in the breeding.
9) That I don’t know but I’ve not heard of any.
Although greyhound are fast runners they don’t need a lot of exercise, because you will find that they are the couch potatoes of the dog world.the life span is the same as any other dog of about 10 years or more. I hope this is of help to you.
By the way, what’s your concern abt type of diet he eats?
Sorry, I have no experience with greyhounds so I can’t answer your questions. Before you deem this a completely useless response, however, my reason for posting was to recommend this site:
http://www.retiredracinggreyhounds.com/
It has by far the most amount of information on caring for a retiree than I have ever seen on any other site.
Good luck and thank you for rescuing.
Hi, I do not know the answers to all of your questions but I am going to tell you my experience. I have a 14 year old female retired racing greyhound. She is the most loving sweet thing on this planet. She is very calm and has the most amazing personality. I was a little bit suprised of how trusting and loving she was from day one because of how badly she was mistreated but I have learned that her personality is very common in greyhounds and they are mostly all like this.
You will need a big bed. I have a futon in the living room that is just for her as well as a very large dog bed in my room for her. Since mine is 14 she is not very active at all and loves just laying around. Im sure the one you get will be different since she will be younger.
A very important thing to know is that greyhounds are sight hounds. Which means you can never let them off their leash inless they are fenced in a backyard or something like that. Because of their racing history if they see a rabbit or animal they will take off so fast and just fix in on them and run until they get it and you could loose yours. So never let it off the leash.
As far as clothes and coats go do not buy in a pet store. I have tried the XL many times and always have to return them because they are so big and muscular. Here is a website Im not sure if they wil ship to you but you can ask. it is http://www.k-9komforts.com They make specialized clothing for greyhounds and beds.
The only health problem mine has and I am told it is common is that her teeth are rotting out. Because she is so old putting her under anesthesia for extraction is too risky my vet said. So we have to mix her dry food with water to soften it. I am told this is very common bec of the horrible food they are feed at the race track but does not happen until later in life.
She goes through a $10 bag of iams dry food a week. Oh and they are also wonderful with other animals and children. I also have 4 cats and she loves them all and is their “mommy” they love cuddling up next to her and sleeping.
If you decide to get one you will have a loyal loving grateful best friend for life and you will not regret it. I can not express enough how wonderful mine is and how lucky I am to have her in my life!!! You will be saving a life!!
Good for you considering adopting a dog in need of a home. And even better for you that you are taking the time and thought to make sure that it is the right thing for you.
1. Sorry I am in the USA so I don’t know. Do an internet search. If you can’t find a local group, contact a national group for a referral.
http://www.greyhoundrescue.co.uk/
2. Hard to say. Depends on a lot. You need to consider annual vaccinations and dental cleanings, heart worm and flea prevention, food, toys, beds, coats, unexpected illness or injury, boarding if you travel,etc..
3. Because of their thin hair and low body fat, they need coats and clothes to wear in cold climates. Because of their wide neck and smaller head, a martingale collar that wont slip off, and then all of the other things anyone would need for a dog.. food, soft and warm place to sleep, toys, treats..
4. M or F is a personal preference. They are both great.
5. Through your adoption group or over the internet, on ebay…
6. In the USA most groups will provide the spay/neuter and will have the dog current on shots and any other vetting, a martingale collar with lead, and a muzzle.
7. They are sprinters. They have energy but it comes in short bursts. They were breed to be hunters and to be companions.
8. Its streamlined shape, large lungs, heart and muscles, the flexibility of the spine, and the double suspension gallop in which all four feet are off the ground twice during each full stride. (like a cheetah versus a gallop like a horse)
9. Very few known. Proper food, exercise, and weight maintenance. They do require dental care if you want them to have healthy teeth.
And there are two important rules for greyhounds:
1. they are a house dog.. sensitive to cold and heat
2. never off leash unless inside of a fence
They are wonderful, devoted, low maintenance pets. Good Luck!!
Battersea Dogs And Cats Home does have Greyhounds for re homing they may not be a shelter for greyhounds only but they do have experts on most if not all breeds. I can’t see your objection to Battersea. Still If you want to go to the Greyhound rescue home then that is your choice. But I don’t think that there is one near where you live, you will have to check out there web sight.
